Help with medication

Tue, 06/28/2016 - 21:09
I'm new around here. My 10 year old was diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy in May during an inpatient EEG. He was having several seizures a day for several days then not again for several weeks. Once diagnosed he began on Trileptal. Since that time he has had more seizures per day nonstop. I have no idea if it's the medication inducing them, or if the epilepsy is getting worse. Here's my frustration/question. Every time I call our doctor to say he's having more seizures, she has us increase the dose and then makes us do blood work to show how much medication is in his system. He is only ten and is now up to 750 BID of Trileptal. If the blood work doesn't show he is in the highest therapeutic range we will have to go through the whole process again. I'm so frustrating because I know this medication isn't working and I want her to try something else. Does anyone else have to go through all of this to get any reeling for their child? Things are getting scary. Thanks in advance for any help.
