Has epilepsy ever cause issues with police/first responders?

Thu, 02/11/2016 - 18:49

I am a new to epilepsy momma. I have three children, and one has epilepsy, another has multiple special needs. I am getting ready to do a training forum for first reponders, about what to expect when dealing with children who are not typically developing, but appear to be. With our new epilepsy diagnosis, I was wondering if there was anything I could include in my training with them. For example, my other son has Autism, Sensory issues, Cognitive delays, Vision issues, and a couple other issues.  I will be talking with the police about the fact that just because he does not look him in their eyes, does not mean he is ignoring or avoiding them. If they try to "frisk him" it can lead to a meltdown as it is not expected.

Is there anything you feel would be important for me to include about epilepsy?  (Or any diagnosis for that matter)

If this is not allowed, I am sorry.  My intention is to be helpful, and help advocate for our amazing children, not to break rules.
