First time mum dealing with daughters seizures....

Sun, 01/18/2015 - 06:42
Hi, I am after some advice about my 16 month old daughter. About 2 months ago she was taken into hospital after a choking episode and had to receive first aid to get the food out of her throat. This was obviously very traumatic for her (and the rest of us!). We were discharged from hospital after all tests were fine and returned home. A few hours later my daughter had a seizure. Scariest moment of my life! She collapsed, went blue, jerked and was absent for a good 10 minutes afterwards. So we went back into hospital..... and then she had another one that evening. Following these episodes she was kept in for tests and observations for 3 days. All came back clear and we were left with no explanation. Still not sure if the choking incident was infact a seizure aswell, or if it was what sparked the following episodes. Anyway, we are going to be under the consultant for atleast 6 months to monitor the situation. Now as you can imagine this has all made me a bit on edge as a mother and I now don't know if I am reading into things too much... but for the last few nights her sleeping has become really bad and she keeps waking up very upset. Last night we had her in our bed and noticed that each time she woke up it was after quite a big jerking movement and then a shriek that doesn't sound like her normal cry. I am a first time mum so not sure whether this is normal or whether it could potentially be a seizure? Does anyone have any similar experience? She doesn't seem herself today...she is very tired and clingy. Thanks for any help in advance! Holly

Hi Holly, first of all I want

Hi Holly, first of all I want to say how sorry I am that you have to watch your tiny little baby go thru something so violent to the body and spirit. She's very lucky to have a mom that seems to be as strong and determined as you.  My whole body or sometimes just a limb will jerk. Sometimes a shallow movement and sometimes it's violent enough to move my whole body. It is her brain misfiring and it actually happens to people who have never had a seizure in there life. They happen to me be for a grand mal and after.   As for her mood changes today I would keep an eye on here. That could be her body's way of getting ready to have another. When she had her first seizure did she chew up her young at all while she was convulsing? There are times I wake up not really knowing that I had a seizure in my sleep but then my tongue will bother me. And also did you say you are working with a neurologist now? I hope to hear from you soon!
