Epilepsy Monitoring Unit Experiences?

Thu, 06/11/2015 - 19:34

I was just told by my 3yo's neuro that he wants to admit her to the EMU for a few dahays. I am very nervous and worried about this. Has anyone had this experience with a their toddler? How did they do. When she had her inital EEG it was horrible and she had to be restrained. I can't imagine her wearing the leads for an extended period of time. She has some sensory processing issues and doesn't do well with anything out of the ordinary and especially something touching her. Can anyone help calm this mama's fears?

Relax and understand the neurologist is trying to help your daughter. I know it is hard for a mother. I know my mother went thru WELLLLL she did. I am the one who has epilepsy. I was diagnosised when I chagned from a kid to a  teen.In most EMU's the person in them can do almost everything they do at home. I had friends come in. We watched movies and played cards. One time I could have had some family members stay over night so please check with her neuro and find out more about the EMU. I hope this helps and she gets the assistance she needs Joe

Thank you all so much. We just found out yesterday that her stay will be in August as the EMU is fully booked until then. This gives me a lot to work with and consider. The playmats sound like a great idea.  She sleeps with me so the full size bed is perfect. I am making a list and will communicate with the EMU director who phoned me yesterday. Again thank you all for the comforting words and advice.
