EEG question

Wed, 06/22/2016 - 20:45
Hi. I have a question, but here's the background: My 12 y.o. son had what I think we're 2 seizures a couple weeks ago. None since. He awoke with a headache that morning and said he felt funny and tingly. He was in a chair and fell off face first unconscious. His arms were stiff and eyes rolled back but no big shaking - only little jerking. My sister has epilepsy (seizure free for 30 years, since reaching adulthood but still has abnormal EEGs). My son's episode did not look like the grand mal seizures she had. I wasn't sure it was a seizure. My son said he was aware when sitting in the chair but suddenly felt paralyzed, then awoke on the floor. A little while later, it happened again. Finally had an EEG today but ped neurologist (only one in town) is on jury duty and may not be able to read it for a day or two. (crazy, right?) Follow-up next week. So, I watched while my son had the EEG. After the strobe and the hyperventilating part, when he was supposed to relax, the EEG lines got big (high) and fast. My son's eyes were closed but lids were fluttering. His foot was jerking a bit. It looked like he was dreaming. It lasted maybe 5 -10 seconds, then went back to the smaller lines. He had this happen 2 times. After the test, I asked him if he fell asleep. He said he did not. My question: Does this sound like a seizure or abnormal? The tech acted normally but would tell me nothing. Having to wait until next week is excruciating! I kept telling myself the EEG was to rule out a seizure or at least, the risk of repeat, but now I'm worried. Thanks in advance.
