Does this sound like a seizure?

Thu, 03/24/2016 - 22:38
I posted here just recently. My 2.5 year old son has developed new types of seizures recently (used to be only TC, but now complex partials and others). Since complex partials started, he sometimes seems to pretend that he is shaking, his upper body and arms will shake, and it seems like he is doing it on purpose. I think he was at least partially aware during partial seizures and knew what was going on, so I assumed that he got into pretending now that he is in a seizure just as a game (he is all into pretend play). Usually he brings his arms up to his chest, clenches his teeth and kind of smiles, looks like a smiling grimace done on purpose, and does the shaking for a few seconds and then he laughs. He stands throughout this. I couldn't tell today if he was playing or if something really happened. Unlike other times when he would bring his arms up to his chest, this time his arms were hanging and one seemed limp and shaking involuntarily (my impressions that it was involuntary, don't know for sure). It ended like other times, after just a few seconds, with him laughing. Does this sound like a seizure or like a 2 year old being silly? Thank you!

My 22 month old son does this

My 22 month old son does this as well and has since a few months after his first (15 minute) gran mal when he was 11 months old!!  He has an abnormal EEG during this time and was started on Keppra immediately.  We have since added CBD oil.  It is very frustrating and difficult to tell whether he does it on purpose or not.  These incidents only seem to bother him or upset him about half of the time, the other half he giggles afterwards just like you described.  I can't really get a clear answer from the neuro as to whether this is seizure related or not and really  not wanting to increase Keppra, as recommended, if not seizure related.  Did you ever get a clear answer about your son?
