The difference between jerks and seizures in a 5 month old

Fri, 06/02/2017 - 16:58
My baby girl was born with HIE (oxygen deprivation prior to birth, and resulting brain damage). Because of that, she has seizures. However, lately I've begun to wonder if some of what I've been terming seizures (and reporting them to the doctor as that) are actually just jerky movements due to her brain damage. Her style of seizing is that she turns her head sharply to the right, stiffens one or both arms, sometimes shakes them, sometimes opens her mouth or makes grunting noises. I think we all know that she's seizing when she does that. But other times she just turns her head sharply (and very forcibly) to the right, and I'm beginning to wonder if, when no other symptoms are present, that may just be a quirk of hers because of the brain damage. And who knows? Maybe she has stiff, painful muscles that make her want to turn her head that way. Her pain tolerance is quite high, so it's hard to say whether she's hurting or not. Any feedback? Thanks in advance!

People that have jerking

People that have jerking motions of the head are doing so because they are having seizures. Not because they have "sore muscles" .I suggest you consult a Pediatric neurologist.
