Depakote and fractures are they related?what do I do?

Sun, 01/04/2015 - 13:03

It has been a really long time since I have been on here. Here is a little back story. My son (now almost 14) has epilepsy. He has since he was an infant. Most of his seizures are petit mal with the occasional myoclonus if he is getting sick or overly tired.  He started with febriles and myoclonus but has for the most part out grown those. We have tried 10 different drugs in many different combinations. After much trial and error we restarted depakote ER 250 twice a day. He still has absence daily but at least the side effects are manageable (or at least I thought they were) . Part of whatever it is that he has is that he doesn't feel pain the way everyone else does, he also doesn't sweat.  When he was 3 he broke his arm, when he was 10 he broke his other arm.e never told us he hurt we just noticed he was holding them different. In August he broke his right foot.  On follow up with the orthopedist we discovered an old healed fracture in his foot.  I added vitamin d to his regimen of other vitamins ( he takes a multivitamin, an iron suppliment. ( to help with pica) and benedryl ( to help with drooling)).  The middle of December he broke his left foot.  Again he never really complained about pain.  Could this all be related to the depakote or is he just a kid who breaks bones?
