Cortical Dysplasia, No Seizures

Sat, 05/09/2015 - 19:56

My now 15-yr old son had an MRI done Feb 2014 because he had been suffering from frequent headaches.  The MRI showed he has Cortical Dysplasia of the left frontal lobe involving the superior and middle frontal gryi, but that this condition did not account for his headaches. We met with a neurologist, who did an EEG, but because it came back normal, she only wanted to change his diet and throw anti-depressants at him.  We never really got answers to all of the questions we had.  Mostly, he has always had behavior issues (since age 3) and we've never been able to nail down (through multiple doctors, psychologists, etc.) what his problem is (some say ADHD, some say he doesn't have ADHD, some say ODD, etc.)  I personally believe he may have a form of high-functioning autism, but I'm not a doctor, it's just something I've suspected through research.  I'm wondering if anyone else knows of someone who has this condition, but really no other symptoms?  Also, can this condition be the root of an underlying behavioral disorder?  Thanks in advance for any information!

We met with a neurologist, who did an EEG, but because it came back normal, she only wanted to change his diet and throw anti-depressants at him. As for EEG's and them comming back normal... I had 20-25 all came back normal. The one that showed anything was the one in which I fell asleep in. Also understand that the EEG can only read to a certain septh on the brain if the electrical abnormality is comming from deeper in his brain it won't be picked up. My seizures were happening 2 years before I had my grand mal. Wierd feelings in my head or right hand were passed off because if you raise your head up fast you can get them. Or if you over work your body at times your muscles felt wierd.  I had been written up in class for a long period of time when in reality those day dreams were absence or focal seizures. If this were my son I would be checking with this neurologist to find out their speciality. If it isn't epilepsy then have them refer you to a neuro who specializes in epilepsy. At that visit take the MRI and the EEG in with you.
