My understanding is that certain types of birthmarks are indications of problems in the brain that may cause seizures. I know that some of the doctors my 11 year old son has seen have asked about birthmarks within the first couple of minutes of his first appointment with them. There is a book that may be helpful to you. It is called "Seizures and Epilepsy in Childhood, A Guide". It is written by John M. Freeman, M.D., Eileen P.G. Vining, M.D. and Diana J. Pillas. This book answered so many questions for my husband and me after our son was diagnosed with epilepsy. Good luck to you and your family.

There are certian types of birthmarks, cafe au' lait spots for example that can be an indicator of an underlying gentic disorder - Neruofibromatosis (aka NF). Some people with NF also have seizures.
