Anyone have a similar story???

I'll try not to make this too long.... My daughter had an a typical febrile grand mal seizure when she was 10 months old. She was on Tegratol for a year and no more seizures. At 10 she was diagnosed with having petit mal seizures / absence seizures. She was put on Depakote which was an awful experience for her.. then finally Topamax which worked like a dream. She was weaned off after a year on that one and seizure free for 2 years. A week ago I found my 15 year old baby on my bathroom floor unresponsive and breathing funny. She was taken to the emergency room by ambulance and they believe that she had a grand mal seizure this time. We are going to do an EEG as soon as we can get it scheduled but I'm so scared because she hasn't had a seizure like this since she was a baby. Has anyone had a similar thing happen with you or your children?/? If so please share your stories if you can... i'm a nervous wreck....

Sounds like something that may have been triggered by good old hormones again. I'm no doctor, but my grand mal seizures started when i was 13. I'm now 48 and still on medicine and doing just fine. I'm under control with Tegretol. When i hear of teenagers having seizures, it doesn't surprise me at all. I hope all is well.

Thanks for the reply... That is kind of what I thought of too but that was what they told me when she was 10.. then said she would probably outgrow the seizures and she did...so I thought. Then all of a sudden came the grand mal seizure which is different than what she was doing before. It's so hard to understand the whys and hows... but if it means meds for life.. then so be it. I'd rather know she's ok than to worry constantly that it will happen when I'm not home to help her. Glad to know that you are doing just fine and that the meds are working for you.. That makes me feel a little better : ) thanks...

I'm sure she'll be just fine. It takes alot of work, and patience, and the fear is sometimes there much more for our family members than it is for us with E. Support and remember not to hold her back from letting her do the things she has always wanted to do. When i'm not taking care of the family, or my granddaughter, or chasing after the dogs, i'm riding my horse..........your daughter has a lifetime to enjoy!! Take care
