Am I missing something?

So I have been reading some of the posts by other parents and I have seen alot that the younger kids aren't showing the "traditional" symptoms of seizures and some kids are just screaming or angry... Kaitlyn will be 2 in May, she has had two seizures when she was waking up, and one where she spaced out and would not respond. I am still so new to all of this. Well is it possible that I missing some of her seizures? Could her outbursts be seizures? Or just when she's angry and grouchy for no reason? I mean, I'm sure she can have a bad day but she's been having alot lately. She is normally a happy kid and the past month now she has been aggressive, she's been hitting, biting, and throwing horrible temper tantrums. Everyone is blaming the terrible twos for her behavior, but I would have thought that would have been more gradual then all of the sudden one day she just can't handle anything. How are some of the other seizures? From personal experience, what are you children doing if they aren't having the gran mals? I feel like I'm missing something. Thanks. Emily

there are many different types other than grand mal my daughter is 4 now and was diagnosed with epilepsy when she was 2 she has partial complex: left hand twitches Simple partial: right side of her face goes up Tonic: (grand mal with no jerking)stiffening of the body drop Attacks: she drops to the ground she has only had 4 grand mals in 2 yrs and only 2 where convolsive so yes you could just not be seeing them she also will bust out in tears and theses are auras/seizures some seizures can just be vocal just write down theses episodes and approch your neuro about them.

Hi Emily, I worry about the same thing. The other night my daughter let out a cry in her sleep and now I'm wondering and worrying about that. She had 2 grand mals but in Nov. started having complex partials. When she had one of those sometimes she just gets a funny feeling (aura) and I dont know if she every actually has a seizure then or not. A few other times she stared for a few seconds and also wouldn't respond. When she snapped out of it, she smelled something burning. Ariana has also been very aggressive and throwing herself on the floor, kicking, screaming. Her neuro seems to think it is the trileptal she has been on and has now added lamictal. He will slowly increase the lamictal and decrease the trileptal. From what I have seen with my daughter that is 9, I would say its not Kaitlyn's terrible twos. Every time my daughter does something different I wonder if a seizure is coming or I missed one. It's very tough. What med is Kaitlyn on? Good luck! Shar

My son (age 11) sometimes gets EXTREMELY irritable and then will have a seizure within a few hours. It doesn't happen every time he has a seizure, but my husband and I have definitely noticed it on more than one occasion. It is almost like we are living with a different person. His first seizure that we know of was when he was 8. He has auras before his seizures and they vary, but usually he has a feeling of being separated from his body for a second. He describes it as jumping out of his body then back in. He has also heard screams or growls, felt like he was being pushed, his tongue and lips will go numb and several other odd feelings. Now that he recognizes these different things as auras, he swears that he has had these feelings for as long as he can remember. He has always been a little moody, but when I think about him having those feelings when he was younger and not understanding what was going on, I would be moody too! Hope this information helps you in some way. Good luck and take care. Chris
