allergies and seizures

I was wondering if anyone else has noticed a link between their child's seizure activity and allergy season. We went quading along the alphalpha feilds the other day and my son's eyes totally swelled up into jelly balls. He was so tired out and stuffed up. He had a seizure the next morning. Does anyone think that allergic reactions can lower the seizure threshold? It seems plausible to me as their system would be weakened? --mamajess

I think you're all making the correlation in reverse. Histamine is a neurotransmitter and also raises seizure threshold. I have bad allergy symptoms and had full panel allergy testing which revealed no allergies and have had a seizure disorder since the age of 3. I'm willing to bet, and hope to inspire research in this area that the body activates histamine in an attempt to regulate seizure activity, causing "allergy symptoms" to appear when seizure activity is present.

Allergy is a 24/7/365/Lifetime Source of Chronic Inflammation.   Is it possible, that by Neutralizing the Source of your Enviro Allergies, You “Remove” a major Layer of Immune System Hyper-Sensitization .. and in doing so, You Drop the System’s overall Hyper-Sensitization Level that is Triggering ( or at the very least Exacerbating ) the Epilepsy Frequency   I read above the incidence of Allergy Shots exacerbating Epileptic Episodes ..  to me this is a Good News / Bad News observation..   Bad News = Enhanced Episodes   Good NEWs = Allergies are definitely “At Play” ..   That with the Direct Intro of Offending Allergens via Injection .. it is “Too Much / Too Soon ..   But “If” You build Tolerance to / Neutralize your Enviro Allergy via a Softer / Slower Neutralization Method i.e. Sublingual ImmunoTherapy, You may not only Neutralize your Allergy Symptoms .. but also reduce the overall Systemic level that may be Triggering your Epilepsy.   Thoughts Welcome…   Stephen @ www.GOOyCHEWy.com RELIEF   For our Itchy Allergy DOGs ..  www.DoggyGOO.com
