Hi there, Has anyone tried acupuncture for the treatment of epilepsy? I have a five year old with absence and myoclonic seizures currently taking five meds twice a day without seizure control. We have okay seizure control but not completely and just curious if anyone has tried alternative treatments with success. thanks

WelcomeWhat people need to look at is teh word "control" You posted your child is taking medications 2 times day without control. The next sentence you follow with "okay seizure control but not complete"While there are many people that will get complete control there are some that will take medications and still have seizures and they and their neurologists can say the're seizures are controlled. I am one of them. Now to your main question. Yes there are tings that can be done to help calm the central nervous system down. Acupuncture may help. Yoga works for others. They have 2 different diest that have helpes. One being the ketogenic diet the other the Modified Adkins diet. For me when I was a teen I ran. Yes Ran. I could get run miles and in the running I was relaxed so it calmed me down. If I was ever upset or mad I tore thing up. I put them back together, But it was the release of pent up energy that was calming. I had to go to Docs monthly and in those visits he laid me on my back and slid pads under my shoulder. Those pads were connected to a maching that put off timy electrical impulsed. You bearly felt them. But withing a couple of minutes I was so relaxed there were times I fell asleep. So yes things that relax your child can and do help. Now taking medications is important too. Two times a day does not mean 8am and 6pm. Meds that are prescribed at 2 times a day means they should be taken 12 hours apart. That way the theraputic levels are constant and can keep break through seizures from happening.I hope this helpsJoe
