Accepting my seizure disorder. Questions about memory loss.

Hello everyone. My name is Kim. I'm in my forties and I have had migraines since I was a child. I would come in from playing in the snow and the contrast from bright to dark would set them off. I had a grand mal seizure my first year in college just riding in a friend's car going to lunch.... Have had maybe two more grand mals in my life and then I think I switched to partial seizures. I've continued to get migraines also and some that I thought were partials could have been severe migraines or vice versa. They've been pretty well controlled with meds I guess? Or maybe not if the migraines were mild seizures? , Since I thought I wasn't having a lot, may have been lax on always 100 percent taking both my day and night doses of tegretol. I hate to admit I need it. I won't be making that mistake anymore. Saturday I went to a nieces graduation party (no alcohol was consumed, I do not drink) and on the way home I started feeling funny and had to pull off the highway. My daughter was with me and I do remember her telling me I was not alright to drive. What upsets me the most is that I now have no memory of the party, the day before the party, and part of the previous week is a little foggy. My logical thinking has also been a little off this week and I'm looking at clothes I bought when we went shopping and not remembering buying them even though my best friend sent me a pic I sent her when trying stuff on and I look at pics from the party and remember a little snippet. Looking at bank deposits not knowing what the money was meant for. I have to say this seizure has affected me more than any other. I can't stand the thought of losing memories. And my brain has always been my thing. I've always been the smart girl or the funny girl. Quick with a story or imitation. I have a busy job where people rely on me for their safety. I've never had a seizure affect me like this before. Usually I snap out of it pretty quick or if I can't communicate I still can tell what's going on. I did tell my neurologist and we are scheduling some tests. My seizures/migraines do come around my period and I think I'm hitting perimenopause because this one took a month and a half to come so I don't know if the hormones have an added effect or what I should do about that. I'm just scared. My daughter is scared for me now too I think.

From what you posted many ofthe things you posted could be seizures or parts of them. your migrains could also be seizures or parts of seizures. If you have more issues during your time of month then it could be your medications levels need to be increased. Hormonal changes do affect medications. Relax and discuss this issue with your neurologist.Find out from them the results of oyur tests If your dosages haven't been chabges for some time that might be all that is needed. Please do oyurself a favor and don't get lax on your meds. I take mine at the same time morning and night not the first thing in the morning and last things at night since they would be off hours. I take them at 8 morning and night. I have found out it is better to take them 12 hours apart which keeps the elvels set so I won't have a breakthru seizure.I hope this helpsJoe
