Absence Seizures and Bed Wetting for 9 year old

Wed, 03/02/2016 - 11:54
Hello. My son was DX with absence seizures in September 2015. He was put on Ethosuximide after they saw 9 seizures during a 45 minute EEG. After 6 weeks, he had another EEG, which was clean! Unfortunately the meds were making him have terrible headaches and feel VERY tired (a 9 year old boy shouldn't want to sleep all day!). So after talking to his Neurologist in early December, we reduced his evening dosage by 2.5 ml and it seems to have helped a ton! Only 1 or 2 headaches since and his energy level has spiked! However, since that reduction he has had 3 or 4 bed accidents at night. I can't remember the last time he had one prior to this. Could there be a connection? We haven't noticed any seizures during the day, however, could he be having them at night? Just wondering if its something I should be concerned about or if its just a coincidence and he's drinking too many liquids before bed...Thanks!

Yes he can have seizures at night. Nocturnal epilepsy was the name back in the 60's. The seizures happen at night or right before sleep of after waking up. So his accidents can be cause by a seizure. Discuss this issue with his neurologist.
