8 year old on vimpat

Tue, 04/26/2016 - 22:16
Hi, I have an 8 year old boy who has Complex partial seizures. He has tried keppra, trileptal, lamictal and zonsamide (sp?). He has been off seizure meds for about 8 - 9 months. During this time he had several seizure events, mostly just staring off and confusion. Recently he had a seizure at school in which he was confused, lethargic and not responsive to questions for at least 20 minutes. So, we are exploring meds again due to the seizure activity and an abnormal EEG with frequent epileptic spikes in the right hemisphere. He is trying vimpat now and he took his first dose tonight. Upping the dose gradually. Does anyone with children have experience with this drug? I have read it is not safe for children under 17? Any advice would be helpful. Thank you
