4 year old and Keppra, new here.

New to this group and looking for some support. It has been really good to read some of the posts and not feel alone. My 4 year old daughter had four seizures on Christmas Day (prior to this she had only had one isolated febrile seizure at 2 years old). Her EEG showed abnormal activity on the left side and MRI showed left temporal cortical dysplasia which results in epilepsy. She is on 200mg of Keppra in the morning and 250mg in the evening. She has had no seizure activity since Christmas. Overall I think she is doing very well. But the Keppra definitely affects her mood and ability to cope with things that used to be normal for her. I guess we are finding a new "normal". At what point do you say something to the Dr. about side affects? And wondering if the side effects can lessen over time as her body adjusts? I hate that sometimes she is not herself. But I would rather this than more seizures. Any advice/encouragement is helpful. This is one of those groups you never plan to be part of...but here we are and I'm glad to have others mamas and dads going through similar situations with their littles.

Hi, I don't have any advice

Hi, I don't have any advice but I'm new here too. My 3yo was just diagnosed and we are waiting on an MRI to see if they can determine a cause. He is also on Keppra and so far our biggest side effect is restlessness but he had just started taking it. You are definitely not alone. This is scary stuff but so far have found this site to be extremely helpful. Hang in there!

We've been giving our son 100

We've been giving our son 100 mg of vitamin B-6 to help with the effects of "kepprage" since he was three (eight yo now).  It does provide some relief.  Also, there is a timed release version of Keppra...  Keppra XR.  You'll need to talk to your neuro to determine if this is appropriate for a patient his age.  The only draw back is that the pills only come in 250 mg increments.
