3 year old son recently diagnosed

Mon, 04/30/2007 - 17:32
Hi! My son, who will be 3 in June, was diagnosed with generalized seizure disorder in March. He had one seizure in October 2006 and then February 27, 2007, he had 2 atonic (drop) seizures and a tonic-clonic seizure which led to the diagnosis. He is taking Trileptal 2 times per day (4cc) and Valium once per day (2mg). He still has seizures a few times per week. They are either myoclonic or atonic. He also has jerking seizures that last a few seconds. We will get a more definitive diagnosis when we get the results back from his video EEG (2 12-hour EEGs) this Thursday. In the meantime, I was wondering if anyone else had any experience with these types of seizures? What medication is your child taking? Any other advice? My main question is will my child outgrow these seizures? Will he be able to live a normal life?

My son is 2 (April 8th) and we just spent the weekend in the hopsital because he has 7 seizures in a 12 hour period. They think that his are simple partial seizures, but no official diagnosis yet. I too am worried about the aspect of a normal life, etc. I felt compelled to contact you and wondered if you would be interested in e-mailing and sharing findings. We are so new to this and I have no idea what to expect. We just had a 24 hour video EEG and a MRI. They say our results are "normal", but I still have so many questions. Do you know any other websites that have good information without scaring the living tar out of you? There are so many generalized "side effects" that I feel that I will have to keep Jackson in a bubble forever. I was just looking for another mother of a young boy who understands these feelings that I am going through- my friends and family are so caring, but they really don't understand. Let me know if you would like to e-mail- I could use a friend. jkeels8@aol.com
