3 Grand Mal Seizures in 12 hours

Sat, 01/07/2017 - 23:55
I brought my 4 year old daughter home from the hospital today. She had three grand mal seizures on Thursday. She had a previous history of absence seizures from March of 2015, right after she turned 3.The ethosuximide seemed to be working for the absence seizures, but in the last few weeks, she had a few strange episodes that led me to believe they were coming back. She had blood work done a couple of weeks ago and we were waiting on the results when this happened. They started her on depakote just before the third seizure. I am absolutely terrified. The doctors all seemed really optimistic, and the resident was truly amazed at how great she looked last night, but I'm still a wreck. I'm afraid to go to sleep or let her out of my sight. I'm worried that the seizures worsened because she wasn't getting the proper dosage of medication, because even though she capped out, the neurologist still hadn't prescribed a new one. I feel completely helpless and like I'm just waiting for it to happen again.

Joe, I'm not the original poster of this comment but have posted similar feelings about being the mother of my epileptic son. I just want to say your replies are always so comforting and reassuring.  Thank you for always taking the time to reply to us freaked out Mother's, it means a lot and it can be really hard to find positive encouragement.  :)
