2.5 years seizure free & weaning off meds

Tue, 08/12/2014 - 11:11

I was just curious if there's anyone else out there who has weaned their child off medication (per nuero's request).  We were supposed to wean my 8 year old off Keppra in April, but I have terrible anxiety about it and I am just SCARED!  We will start the wean process in September.

My daughter has only had one seizure - in April 2012.  It started out as an absense seizure, then focal and then into a Grand Mal.  By the time it turned into a focal seizure (in her hand) we were already at the ER.  The doctor prescribed her Keppra twice a day because the seizures continued even though she was given medicine (ativan) through an IV.

My husband had seizures as a child and outgrew them, so the neuro thinks my DD will outgrow them as well.

It's just so darn scary.  I hate it.  :(

I understand and yes it can

I understand and yes it can be scary. However if the neurologist is saying she can come off her meds then by all means take her off. My cousin had epilepsy and she went a few years without a seizure. She is still seizure free and is married has a great job is married drives just like her bro and sis. My aunte Lola was worried but she was very happy to know my cusin was goiing to be a normal average kid. But then I asked her What is normal. We have always had a few screws loose in the family and both my cousin and I could fall into that catagory. So I do know that there are many teens and kids that grow out of epilepsy. I also know that if she foes have a seizure she will be put back on the meds which have been helping stop the seizures. All you need to do is watch her and have her tell you anything that was different on any day I hope she stays seizure free and hope you relax some. If it happens then that is another thing you can take off your plate.
