20 year old son with Epilepsy

Mon, 10/20/2014 - 20:32

Our son was diagnosed with Grand Mal seizures at 17 as a junior in high school it was very difficult to adjust to not being able to drive and the side effects of meds (Keppra) being 20 now he has lost driving privileges for 6 months until he is seizure free, not allowing him to work, adding new meds in hopes this will stop the seizures. Does anyone else worry about conflicting feelings that you might be enabling your young adult?  Our son is not confident being in college anymore or working.

My daughter who is 20 has

My daughter who is 20 has grand mal seizures and complex partial seizures. She was diagnosed at age 10.  She did fairly well for a long time. She graduated from high school and was driving.  Then, about 16 months ago, her seizures got much worse.  She has been having seizures every 4 days to 6 weeks. When she has a grand mal seizure, she stops breathing.  We cannot leave her alone.  She was going to community college, but won't be going back next semester.  The stress from school has caused several seizures.  She had a VNS placed in June, and is now at the high end of dosing for the electrical current.  Her most recent EEG, from last week, shows worsening epilepsy.  Her Epileptologist wants to start Onfi this week.  My daughter is completely depressed and doesn't feel like her life is hers anymore.  I hope that your son can get it all under control.
