2 y/o on Keppra, won't talk/walk...just not right

Hello! So for those of you who haven't read any of my posts my daughter Kaitlyn is 2 years old and was just prescribed Keppa, 1 ml (100 mg) twice a day... and then up it the following week. She has complex partials and simple partials. So today we gave her, her first dose of Keppra at 10 am... she also has a cold right now with fever but other than that has been normal and happy and coherent. About 10 minutes after giving her, her Keppra she got really sleepy, uncoordinated and had a hard time walking and talking. We thought maybe she was just tired, so she went to sleep. After she went to sleep at about 10:15 she didn't wake up but for about 2-5 minutes total. When she would look at you she would just stare and didn't even look like she was there. As we were carrying her she was just like dead weight and was all floppy. We waited for awhile, about around lunch time I started to get worried because Kaitlyn quit talking... from 10 am until 9:45 pm she said maybe a total of 12 words, didn't pee at all, couldn't walk and would never respond when we said her name. We ended up rushing her to the er at about 6:30 pm and they did nothing and said nothing. I am just wondering if anyone else has had an experience like this?? Once 10 pm came around she started to talk a little more and was a able to walk finally, but she still doesn't look like she's there. Please help, this has been the worst thing to see because it's like she lost all ability to do anything. She quit eating, drinking, talking, walking, going pee..... one doctor said to giver her her meds as prescribed still but the neuro said to wait a week. I am terrified to give it to her again because what if it gets worse?

Hi there, My daughter is 20 months old now and when she was about 6 months old she was put on a keppra drug study. She has had seizures since she was about 9 days old. We had the same experience with keppra. My daughter Morgan is very quiet and kind of distant. I beleive she started to be like that when she was put on the keppra. When i told the doctors of the way she was they told me that they were positive that it wasn't the keppra. They said that they never heard of delays or of a child not doing the things that they did before. But i have pictures of her holding her head up while on her belly and she did none of that while on keppra . She is not on keppra anymore she hasn't been for about 8 months. After she was taken off the keppra they then told me that i should look into getting her into physical therapy because she was delayed. Never once did they say that before or while she was on the drug. It was like they didn't want me to think that what i had told them was true. I didn't realize that she was delayed because she is my first child. I just thought it was strange how she had just stopped doing the things that she was prior to keppra. They made the drug sound so wonderful when they put her in the study. We were thinking that this drug was going to be a miracle and it wasn't. They have wanted to try it on her again but i have refused. She is in physical therapy and progressing I dont want to take any chances. I now don't call when i think she needs her meds increased because i am afraid that it will happen again. I hope everything goes well with Kaitlyn. There are different drugs out there that will help her. Good luck with everything Katie (Morgan's mom)

Thank you so much for the reply!! I am so stressed out by the whole ordeal with just finding out recently that she has epilepsy and I knew a little bit about anti-seizure meds from my work prior to having her so when I found out that they wanted her to be medicated it freaked me out and I have avoided it up until this week. When I called the neurologist after I gave her the meds and she started to act different they told me that there was no way that this would happen, and only from one dose. So I am supposed to call them after the cold is over and we will start the Keppra again... but I don't want to start it again. I don't want to have to go through this. It was like once the Keppra hit her system she forgot how to do everything, even cough. Just this evening, more than 24 hours later.. she is finally talking, walking and coughing like she should be. It was like she forgot how to drink, or even the need to drink before and now she is drinking. I don't know, it was horrible. I am so upset. When I looked at her, I could see that she wasn't there, her body was there but not her soul. It was upsetting. Well anyway, thank you again for responding.

Hi, I don't know how much help this will be to you, but I was put on Keppra right after I was a diagnosed with complex partial two years ago. Even before I was up to full dosage, the Keppra started effecting me noticeably. It generally made me feel depressed and ambivolent towards my surroundings. I had a ceiling on my emotions (I couldn't feel any joy, and the usual ebb and flow turned into a flat plain) and I would spiral down easily into panic attacks and sobbing fits if confronted with something negative. I was extremely lethargic, and couldn't bring myself to do simple tasks. I felt ambivalent about the people around me, and had a reluctance to communicate or interact, but responded horribly to any criticism from them. Between the emotional sabotage and the lack of will to do anything, I couldn't go to school or work. I wonder if your daughter might be experiencing something similar, but due to her young age is unable to express it? Good luck with everything.
