10 month old. potential seizures daily.

My daughter will be 10 months in two days. 5 days ago she began to have, what I believe to be, seizures. When it began her jaw clenched and every muscle in her body tightened. It only lasted a couple of seconds then there was a pause and it happened again. There were two groups of these seizure like episodes. We took her to the hospital. They took blood and dismissed it. Saying that it probably wasn't a seizure and to follow up with our doctor. The next day it happened again. In another cluster. Same charecteristics. We went to her primary dr who said that it may have been seizures and that we should see a nuerologist for an eeg. We contacted 3 different nuerology departments all of which have a wait exceeding a month. Meanwhile, the seizure-like episodes are happening in clusters of 2 or 3, 2 or 3 times a day. Now sometimes including slight tremoring instead of just tensing. I can not see how this can wait over a month to be addressed/diagnosed/treated. Especially since it seems to be progressing slightly. What do I do? I am terrified.

Thank you for responding. It isn't exactly comforting ,  but atleast I know there isn't something that I should be doing that I am not. I have been documenting  anything I have noticed and I have a few "episodes" on video. Thank you for the advice. I guess there really isn't anything left to do but wait.

Neurologists do have waiting

Neurologists do have waiting lists. I was to have had an appointment 2 months ago. since I was talking to some of the people in the back that appointment wasn't made. When I called to find out when the appointment would be I was told aug.11th. So instead of 3 months the appointment will be 6 months. If I were you I would be setting up appointments with the neurologiosts and like mereloaded stated if your appointment is a month take it. As for ER and testing. They do a good job at getting some things fixed. Blood work is not a test that they would do for seizures. Those tests would be an EEG and a NRI. But a lot of the time those tests come back normal anyway,I do think your child may be having seizures as does her dr. It does take time to get in but relax you are doing everything you can. I would also suggest you get the My Epilepsy Diary which can be found in the get help section. There is a video which tells you how to use it. The reason I suggest this is it has a note pad in it which you can use to note the days she has these episodes and yo ucan not the length of time she is in them. If there is anything different she does that day note it too. If she has more then 1 da day count them an note the number in the pad on that day. Once she has seen the neurologist and is diagnosed it will help The notes can be printed out so the doctor can read them or you won't forget days she had them.I do hope she gets seizure free and do come back and tell us how things are going. Especially if you have questionsJoe

Joe - blood work can show

Submitted by Amy Jo on Fri, 2014-07-18 - 01:27
Joe - blood work can show causes of seizures that are not due to epilepsy, so they are commonly done in initial checks. There are seizures from diabetic complications and other issues. There is something they can check in blood for possible seizures but it has to be done within a short time frame and has limited application.
