What is it like to have an absence seizure?

Wed, 05/11/2016 - 20:04
I got into a bad car wreck in July 2014 that left me with a TBI. I was at a dead stop and was hit by an 88 year old man who was going 55 mph. My head hit the steering wheel flew back and hit the headrest so hard it broke the headrest. They say I have a Chiari malformation. In March of 2015 I started what I'd call twitching, my whole body would just jerk when I was laying down, it started just once every few wks then once a wk and continueshe getting worse til it happens every morning and every night. And if my migraine is really bad it happens during the day too. I have a never ending headaches and about 3 or 4 migraines a wk. I've been on numerous different medications none of them have worked. I got my first botox injection in March and it brought my migraines down to once a wk for 3 wks but I still had constant headaches. Anyways, I've had an eeg that showed nothing so then I had a take home one that I'll get the results back on hopefully tmrw bc I didn't turn in my journal til my last appt. I'm not sure if I'm having seizures or not but I just had something really strange happen and I would like to know is what happens to you during an absence seizure. Do you usually know your having one? I was sitting on the couch in the dark bc of the killer 2 day migraine I have and my body started jerking. I dropped my phone and just stared for a good 15 seconds. I'm not sure if it registered at first but I remember not being able to break the stare and thinking to myself "I'm having a seizure." Certain parts of my body jersey very lightly about 2 times (at least I think they did) so basically my question is does someone having an absence seizure know that they are? Like if you have them are you able to tell yourself that you're having one? I couldn't break the stare while telling myself that but I knew it was going on. And now my head is kind of jumpy feeling.
