What could this be?

I have been looking around this site on and off for the past few months trying to find an answer to what may be going on with my daughter. She has periodically experienced strange spasms where she clenches her fists, her arms kind of go up and out, her mouth contorts, her eyes get big, and her torso stiffens up. It'll last for about 10 seconds or less and then she's right back to normal. We took her for an EEG and that came back normal. Her doctor said that she was having breath-holding spells, though she doesn't get any of the symptoms of breath-holding (turning blue, passing out) that I have read about. I know I had seen something on this site (I think) about a food-related problem that might cause a child to stiffen up, maybe reflux? I am having a hard time finding that on here and was wondering if anyone might know what I'm talking about? I wonder if it is food-related because it does seem to happen primarily when she eats, though not every time she eats, nor is it exclusive to when she eats (the first time it happened she was taking a bath). My husband and I are at a loss for what to do and I'm looking for any suggestions as to where to start. Thank you.

Hi Alissa, Sure food can cause seizures too. There are some of us that are very sensitive. Start looking at labels. Keep away from MSG, Aspartame, prepackaged foods try to avoid. Look into the ketogenic diet or Neurofeedback. But there can be a number of foods that can cause problems, vitamins, minerals...can help too. take care Lisa http://health.group.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach/

I think I left out a big detail. My daughter is only 14 months old and this has been going on since she was about 10 months old. She's a fairly picky eater so far, so she still takes a bottle much of the time. She hasn't had these episodes when she's drinking a bottle, only when eating table foods, and it doesn't seem to matter what it is she's eating. And it does happen when she's not eating, just not as often.
