We had another one

Fri, 01/12/2007 - 16:06
Hi, Well here we go again. My 8 year old daughter that had had her first big seizure Nov 21 had one yesterday. It was strange because it happened about the same time as the first one. About 6:45am. This time she was getting dressed in her room and all of a sudden my 10 year old daughter comes running out of the bedroom screaming she is having a seizure. I got in the room and she had slid down and was squating down against the bed. So I got her and laid her on the bed on her side. It lasted about a minute maybe two. We got her awake and she came out of it just fine. I am scared that the seizures could kill her. Her breathing was not as bad this time. And she came out of it good, but I am still so scared. They have uped her meds to 4 in the morning and 5 at night. She is on Lamictal 25mg. But it is still scary. Jeana

Hi,

My son is 8 and he has started having complex partial seizures. He had five seizures which were the same when he was 2 - at that time he was put on sodium valproate and was seizure free for 2 years and was then weaned off...he was seizure free for 4 years. Last year we got up early for a flight and he had one at the airport..they seem to have increased since then. he is on Keppra this time 500mg am and 750mg pm..however they seem to be getting longer especially when he has to get up early for school. His ct scan/mri have all come back fine. Trying to increase the med again....

Its difficult, you are constantly watching them..when I am at home in the morning and he is watching tv..i call him every few minutes to make sure he is okay....Good Luck to everyone who has this to deal with..it is very difficult...

Sherwinzoo - we have a 9 year old girl that just developed seizures - One doctor thinks they are absence; another thinks they are complex partial. She has had an EEG (did not have a seizure during the test); and a normal MRI. She is on keppra, but that does not seem to be doing the trick, so we are looking to change to Dylantin (sp?). Any thoughts?!?

Also - we live in Wash DC area and have not found a neurologist we are comfortable with. Any suggestions??

thanks

Jeana, thanks for sharing. I am in your shoes. My 12 year had her first one is Aug, her second and third the first of Nov on the same day, and her last one on the end of Nov. She had an EEG video on 12/26 which showed she is high risk for seizures. She was on tomapax 100mg 2x daily, but switched her to depakote 250mg 2x daily. I am not sure how that is working. She has small twitches though out the day. On saturday we were at her brothers basketball game and I am pretty sure she had a small one, but not a twitch. She was staring at the floor and started to shake. It only lasted a few seconds. I thought sure she was going to have a big one, but it didn't happen. A part of me wonders if she had one at all, but I am guessing she did because all I keep thinking about is her shaking. I just hate that I have no idea when it will happen. I worry about her daily. I have caller ID at work, and I hate when the phone rings. I wish there were warning signs. We want her to live a normal life as possible, but I feel when she is with me, I want her by my side. I am glad I found this board. I like reading other stories. Take care! Keep me posted.
