I'm getting a WADA in a couple of weeks . Never had one before and am kind of nervous. Anyone out there familiar with this...fill me in? Does it last very long? Is it painful? How long will it be before I go back to work? Will I need wigs(I understand it some kind of surgery on/in the brain)

The WADA is not a surgery but rather a procedure used to determine how well your brain is functioning. It is done similiar to a heart cath. A numbing medication is used in the groin area & then a tiny tubing, catheter, is inserted. The tubing is threaded up to the brain & the blood flow of the vessels in the brain are checked. Then a medication is injected to put the one side of the brain to sleep. you will be asked questions, shown pictures & quizzed. Then the other side of the brain is tested. This allows the dr to see how well your memory, speech & etc are. Although it may sound complicated & you are awake for the procedure, it is not that difficult. You will need to lay flat for several hours after the test to assure that you have no bleeding from the groin area. It is used to help determine if someone is a good candidate for surgery. Best of luck!! Best of luck to you
