TLE diagnosis

Thu, 02/12/2015 - 13:21
I was diagnosed with TLE last summer. I am unaware of ever having had a seizure. ...some nocturnal incontinence led to me having an EEG. It showed epileptic activity therefore i was immediately put on lamotrigine. Nothing much has changed as the incontinence was sporadic at best and I never had any tell tale signs of seizure activity. My question is. .....Is loss of bladder control during a nocturnal seizure always a complete emptying or can it be partial. I have bladder issues to begin with due to child birth and am wondering how to tell the two apart when it happens during sleep.

WelcomeAny person at any time can have epilepsy. It makes no difference if it runs in your family or you are healthy, young  or old male or female rich or poor. A person can have a seizure without knowing it. I say that because I had been written up in school for day dreaming in class only to find out those day dreams were simple partial seizures which we didn't know about until my seizures increased and stronger until I had my grand mal seizure at school. In some seizures a person can lose control of their bladder. I have done that at times. Depending on the length of the seizure and how long it lasts can make the difference if it was total loss or partial loss. If the EEG showed any seizure activity then yes you can have seizures. Medications are needed to control your seizure activity.  As for nocturnal seizures___ Many people with epilepsy do not have nocturnal seizures.   I hope this helps
