Tips on EEG for 2 year old

Tue, 06/28/2016 - 10:09
My son has been having febrile seizures since he was 1 year old. He's had alot so we had him to an EEG because epilepsy runs in the family. It came back fine, however, he was screaming the entire time, the tech was not kid friendly, so I don't know how accurate it actually was. I decided to get a second opinion. This doctor is great, he didn't want to do another EEG because they were just febrile seizures and he said he would grow out of them. He checked him out, my son did great. Recently hes been having seizures without a fever. I called his neurologist and he's scheduling him for another EEG. Is their any tips on how to get him to relax for this? I'm supposed to keep him sleep deprived which I'm not looking forward too. Is their any tip on keeping him up too? He's 2 so I know it's hard but any sort of advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Katie

I agree with Amy. Request a kid friendly staff. Sleep deprived EEG's with a two year old are awful. Just breathe and get through it. My rule of thumb is to stay calm and positive until they fall asleep and then I give myself permission to let some tears fall.
