Tests are negative, but doc says I have epilepsy

Fri, 02/16/2007 - 04:00
Hi, I'm new to this site, And I was just wondering if anyone out there has been diagnosed with epilepsy even though their tests have shown negative. I have a strong family history of epilepsy (sister, aunty, niece) and I have been having black outs, fainting spells/possible seizures for over 10 years. Been told by numerous doctors that they don't know whats wrong, but have found a doctor that believes it is epilepsy. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated Thanks

Hi Summerlilly, First of All I would like to welcome you to the site. You have come to the right place to find out what you need to know. I Was 11 months old when I had my first convulsion and I had my second at 13 months. When I was 4 yrs old they diagnosed me with having epilepsy. When I was 17 yrs old I was sent in to have Video Teletry and my neurologist said I was having panic attacks. So Then it was time to change neurologist. My new neurologist sent me in for another session of Video teletry and he had no doubt in his mind that I had epilepsy. He diagnosed me with having complex partial seizures.Even though the spike when I was having seizures wasn't showing up like it used to. So I know what it is like being uncertain. I was tested for suitability for Brain Surgery by having a Pet Scan and Wada tests done. I was suitable and I had surgery on the 4th January just gone. Its been six weeks since I have had any seizures thank god. But I wouldn't have gone for it if I hadn't got the support that I have gotten here. :-)

my daughter has seizures were she passes out.yes you can have seizures and not catch them on a test.none of her test having showen seizure activity but that doesnt change the fact that she has seizures.she has both complex and simple partial.unless you are have a seizure when the test is being done most likely your test will come up normal.best of luck.
