Suspected Seizure

Hello, I am in the process of finding out what happend to me last week. I went with my wife to pick our daughter up from school and I stayed in the car with our 8 month old while my wife went in the school. I was eating a chicken sandwich. Well when my wife and daughter came back, about five minutes later, I was barely breathing and non responsive. I was not convulsing. 911 was called and I was taken to the ER, I began coming around before the paramedics arrived and more so on the way. At the ER I was still having major problems remembering the event or several days prior, such as our baby being hospitalized and released. Now for about a year I have been having these strange episodes. Feeling as if i am flying "back" from my surroundings, feeling far away, stomach dropping and several other "small" feelings, such as deja vu. I am also prone to low blood sugar, but these "symptoms" do not realy sound like these episodes. Does this sound like I had a seizure? I had an EEG yesterday and we are still waiting on the results, probably tomorow. Thank you for reading and any possible feedback. If this turns out not to be a seizure I still thank you for your time. Be well and safe!

hi, mystic. Of course your neurologist has to make the diagnosis, but yes those could be seizures. Contrary to popular belief, seizures aren't always convulsive--just depends on what part(s) of your brain are involved. My temporal lobe epilepsy most commonly expresses itself as simple partial seizures, in which I am fully aware (deja vu, odd gut feelings), or complex partials in which I am out of it and actually lose time. After my one "big" seizure (generalized tonic-clonic), my memory of several things prior to the seizure was obliterated, and my memory was pretty poor for several days afterwards too. By the way, I am 32 now, and probably have been having this go on for a couple of years now, so it can come out of nowhere. I would advise you to read up (on www.epilepsy.com; links below) on simple and complex seizures (which cover various types of epilepsy, so it won't all apply to you) and especially the section on Temporal Lobe Epilepsy, so you can be prepared to ask your doc questions. Temporal Simple Complex By the way, I only found out a month ago that it's not normal to have deja vu on average once a week! :) Even if your EEG isn't normal, don't fret. I was only diagnosed on March 30 but have felt absolutely great (not even partials anymore) since starting the medication Keppra. This website can be a terrific resource for you as you learn. Good luck, and keep us posted.

hey juperee, how are you? Well, I was definintively diagnosed today as having Complex Partial seizures. So I guess that means I do have Epilepsy. My Nuerologist prescribed me Teridol (I'm pretty sure thats what it is). Thank you for your input, and I will be visiting this site VERY often in the future. Thank you for everything!

Were they able to determine where the seizures are starting, or are you still being tested for that?
