Simple Partial Seizures

Mon, 01/16/2017 - 16:25
Hi, everybody, I'm curious what happens to others when they have partial seizures? And how do you feel after partial seizures? And how long does this aftermath last for you? A bit if background: I began having grand mal seizures a bit more than ten years ago. I tried multiple medications, and it wasn't until about five years after the seizures began that they were controlled with Lamotrigine. For at least the past couple years I've been having simple partial seizures. Because of what happens during these seizures, I honestly thought I was losing my mind. I didn't mention it to my doctor until around September last year, which was when I was sent to an epilepsy specialist. Since seeing the specialist, I've started taking 20mg of Clobazam, and the Lamotrigine has been increased to 400mg a day. These mini seizures are currently uncontrollable, and I'm having them at least once a day, at least every second day. The effect they have on me is increasingly worse. I'm exhausted and shaky after, and can hardly bring myself to move or verbally communicate. Thank you for any information you share!

I have semi-daily partials

I have semi-daily partials also. The eerie feeling before is a signal for these starting. That wayI know what's happening and can deal with it. Mine vary in intensity- I may lose awareness but other times I just have to wait for it to pass, I know I'll be fine. My body's first reaction is completeloss of bladder control so I always wear pads (Poise are great). The after-effects on my body areminimal-I'm usually just mad I had one. It is usual to feel weak and drained but this will pass too.In the 45 years I've had far worse partials ( falling,mouth/tongue chews etc) causing real damage so to me these are minimal.Keep in mind that you know what's happening- your brain is just "shorting out" so it can't controlyour body/mind. You're not going crazy, having a stroke you're just having a seizure because you are epileptic like 1 in 27 others. There are far worse conditions, diabetes, heart probs which are far mor damaging. The more you learn about your epilepsy the less frightening these seizures will be'
