Seizures started at 34 and getting more frequent. Need info

Hi, I am new to this and just looking for some information. I had my first seizure at 34, went on a drug (can't remember) for 1 year and then came off. 2 weeks later had another seizure. at this point my DR put me on Lamictal. I was fine on this for 1 year and then had a seizure, this was last sept. Since then I have had 3 seizures. They seem to be getting more frequent. I was on 300 mg of lamictal and then it went to 500. After this last seizure I have been increased to 700 which I believe is a high dosage. Now I am having side effects, dizzy, seeing things moving..... My dr cmoved to down to 650 to see it makes a difference. If not I am going to have to add a 2nd drug, not sure which. Any advice or related experience info would help. With this last seizure they took my drivers licence away which really hurts as I am very independant and now I have to rely on other people. Gwyn PS I have had 4 ct scans, an MRI and 3 EEG's with nothing showing.

Hi Gwyn, I can relate you what you said. I have taken so many meds I am sick of opening a pill container. I take the Lamictal, but that is my second medication. My first one is Keppra. I take 4000mg of Keppra and only 200mg of the lamictal. It seems that the two meds are put together alot. being independant is a hard thing to do when ya have seizures. I gave up my license at age 36 and it was very hard to do. I had just moved back home to Maine after my divorce and had 3 children ages 15, 7 & 5yrs old, and no license. Talk about being hard. I had to depend on everyone for everything. Luckily I remarried in 2000 and it is easier now, and the kids are older. I would also ask your doctor if the meds aren't working and if the seizures get more frequent about the idea of brain surgery. I am being screened now to see if I am going to be a candidate for it. Well, I won't go on here forever, but hope some of this is helpful to you. Good luck with whatever you do. Cathy

Gwyn The dose is not too high I have been higher. But of course everyone is different. Sorry to hear about your license. I have NEVER had one in my life and I had epilepsy for 36 years now. But it can be very hard to have freedom and then its taken away. here is some sites that can help with info www.epilepsy.com http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach/ This is a my group but I have a lot of info there, and it covers different approachs with epilepsy. www.epilepsyfoundation.org best of luck to you Lisa
