Seizure or normal baby movements

Sat, 08/13/2016 - 20:51
Hi I'm new here. My 11 week old baby has had 2 seperate days of seizures with no known cause so been classed as epileptic. I haven't had chance to speak or see the specialist at hospital yet so I'm holding off giving her phenobarbital as at the moment with my limited knowledge the side effects of the drugs seem more of a risk than the actual seizures themselves ( they are very brief 1 to 2 seconds and don't seem to bother her) she is also hitting all her developmental milestones so far. I'd really appreciate people's thoughts on this and only wondered how do I classify a seizure? I'm now questioning every move my baby makes especially in her sleep. She often wriggles moving her legs and arms around - is this a seizure or just normal baby movements? I'm literally going out of my mind and wondering what to do for the best for my baby girl. Thank you in advance for any comments or advice.

If a medication has been

If a medication has been prescribed the holding off on it is not reccomended. For many people I being one of them the longer the delay in treatment the more rapid and stronger the seizures got.. Your baby could be having seizures without you knowing it. Some are seconds long, some look lke the person is day dreaming. My focal seizures only affected my right hand and it felt weird. But that was a seizure that no one knew happened and yes people saw me and they lasted a few seconds. Mom didn't know it and my brother didn't either. So understand that not all seizures have movement. Have you ever seen someone daydreaming?? If you have they could have been in a absence seizure. So research.Amy Jo did post what you need to be seeing. If you really want information then start by researching in the help section. they have different types of seizures and types of epilepsy. You can also look at the different symptoms. I hope this helsp and your baby gets seizure free.Joe
