Seizure Awareness

Mon, 03/20/2017 - 09:56
I was just recently diagnosed with seizures and trying to get an understanding on everything in what is now considered my new way of life. I have only had two (both in January, both at 5:45 in the morning 2 days apart). I have not had any history myself or in my family of seizure activity or epilepsy and the EEGs I have had do not offer any further information for me. I have been on Keepra for the last two weeks, and just started my 3rd step to 375mg. My question is, how do I know if I have another seizure? The first two seizures were grand mal and I do not remember either one of them and they were both witnessed by my husband. But I am not aware of I had any before and I am not aware if I have had any since (although he does watch me like a hawk now). But could I potentially have one and not know at all? Or have a slight memory of having one? For example, last night I had a dream I was about to/or had one and was talking to someone to keep from having one, kind of like telling myself to calm down so I wouldn't have one. Since waking up I am recalling my 2nd seizure and remembering when I was told I had one that I remembered apparently realizing while the seizure was happening that everything would be okay, and this had happened before. Any thoughts on this? Has anyone had similar experiences and figured out things?

how much do you know about

how much do you know about your seizures? did you have an EEG?  there are seizures types that one wouldn't catch happening, although after there might be enough clues for some kinds. but not everyone has such seizures. there are seizures people don't know are seizures also.a bit into living with this we started figuring out our child had had a seizure when her memory was significantly messed up - might not have caught the seizure (long staring episodes that she can't recall, complex partials) but sometimes the aftereffects were a doozy. other seizures were small perceptual things (simple partials) that we didn't know could be seizures until it came up talking to the neurologist - bad smells, bad tastes, weird abdominal feelings that was called pain for lack of a better term, etc... our child has more recently shown atypical absence which she doesn't realize happened (I can't either),  but those are controlled. they aren't as abrupt start/stop as absence seizures so I don't know if some people can recognize those are happening.
