is this a seizure?

Tue, 08/15/2006 - 21:27
Hi, I am new. I have had 3 seizures I think (never diagnosed). 2 times while driving. The first time I was aware of seeing the cars stop in front of me, but felt like my body was frozen. I could not move. I knew I needed to brake but nothing happened. I was aware I was going to have an accident but nothing. Then all of a sudden I came out of it and could move. Thank God I did not hit anyone. The 2nd time I was driving and my son was sitting next to me in the front seat talking. Suddenly it seemed his voice was weird- not sure anymore exactly what it was like but I think I remember he sounded far away, even though I knew he was right there next to me. I could hear him talking and was concious of it, but I could not hear the actual words he was speaking. I felt like I was somewhere stuck in time. I can't describe it. Like I was there in the car but time and space were suspended and I was too, while the rest of the world was still moving and going on without me, I don't even know if I could feel my body because it was a weird feeling I can't describe. I knew I was driving and was thinking "Who's driving the car?" I knew I was, but I was wondering this at the same time. I saw thru my window the road and suddenly snapped out of it. I wasn't certain if I was just spacing out a little but also felt scared like I knew it was more than that since I was wondering who was driving the car. The 3rd time I saw someone from the past- a neighbor- and when he said do you know who I am? I smiled but panicked suddenly. I got scared and thought who is he? I felt like I was hallucintaing or something. The past was going thru my mind- flashing pictures of former neighbors and I felt dazed, confused, and my vision seemed blurry and blurry rainbow lights around the outside of my vision. When I came out of it, he was asking if I was ok, saying it's me Jeff. I couldn't remember and thought he was someone else. Later I was like- how could I forget Jeff? I was afraid to tell the dr, I thought they would think I am nuts, and was worried about losing my license (although now I realize that was foolish) When I am tired sometimes I start to stutter lately which never happened before. And I forget things a lot and also seem to have trouble sometimes with typing letters and numbers- like dialing a phone number- I usually get 2 reversed. I have been fine now for over a year- just the 3 isolated events I remember. But my son in the past 4 days has had 3 possible seizures which the dr is checking. My son's possible seizures are not like what I described, but I was wondering if anything I described here is like any other persons seizures. Also, if it's a year later, should I bother getting it checked anymore? Thanks everyone for your help!

yeah.... you need to get checked out.......you're better off in the long run..... if this has happened to you twice, then the odds of it happening again are greater...... i didnt want to get checked myself, but i had a few fainting spells and a lot of deja vu..... my family doctor said that i had a case of verigo, but i told him that i wanted a second opinion. he sent me to a nerologist and thats when i found out that i had the big E. im on meds now and really havent had the auras (those are the lights that you see). i get a burnt rubber smell from time to time and still get a light headed feeling. who knows, you may even have them in your sleep and not know it..... good luck what ever you decide....

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. You are right, I need to get it checked. I never even thought of night seizures- I was thinking maybe it was too late now to get checked. I wasn't sure if what happened to me was familar to anyone else, so I am glad you replied. My son's seizures these past few days were really a wakup call for me. Now it feels harder to just pass off my experiences. I wanted some feedback from others before I approach my dr. I am always thinking they will just brush me off. Even my own family and pediatrician were trying to pass off my son's seizures as nothing. I was told at first maybe he was getting a bug. Thanks again...
