Really freaky embarrassing question

Thu, 12/21/2006 - 21:23
Since I started with epilepsy in 2002,I have been slowly losing my top teeth. Like on the kitchen counter and the street when i feel out of my power chair during a grand mal. So now, i have to get an upper denture which is 500.00. I told my dr. i needed a shock absorber in it (jokingly) Coming up with the funds is almost impossible, but if i do, will the teeth just break off 1 by 1 again? Is anyone else dealing w/this? this is my 1st on the forum. Thx.

WHat meds are you on? Please make sure you get a dexascan test done!!! Possible you are having some boneloss issues from the meds which is causing this problem. Here is some info that I pulled up from my group. http://www.cdrarizona.com/Services/dexas.html Calcium Citrate vs, Calcium Carbonate Which absorbs better? http://healthlink.mcw.edu/article/964794298.html Calcium and Magnesium http://www.wholehealthmd.com/refshelf/substances_view/1,1525,890,00.html Bone Loss from AED Medication http://www.epilepsyfoundation.org/epilepsyusa/between/bonehealth.cfm Bone Loss from AED Medications http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2004-06/aaon-edc060204.php take care Lisa http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach/

Definitely get it checked out as far as medications and dentistry go. My cousin is a dental assistant, and immediately upon my diagnoses she told me to get into contact with my dentist. Apparently a lot of anticonvulsants can cause gum and teeth issues, including decay, and loss of gum tissue.

donna elkins- I take 200mg of Lamictal bid, and 150mg Phenobarbital qday. for 4 years, i was on 300mg dilantin bid. I know that had some problems stated about recessed gums and dental problems. I have printed out the info I got here and will look at the sites and talk to my neurologist about the dexascan. Thank you so much.
