Question

Sat, 04/29/2006 - 14:04
Has anyone ever experienced a coughing fit after their seizure? I was told that I do that after my seizure. I heard from another seizure group that someone couldn't breathe after the seizure. I'm wondering if that's why I cough 'coz I can't breathe. I wish I had the answers 'coz I can't ever remember anything when I get out of my seizure.

While cough usually isn't part of a seizure, it could be a reflexive action to something else. Wonder if cough could occur if build up of savliva in the mouth, triggering cough? Or when muscles tense up during seizure, breathing changes. When muscles relax, breathing may be different as well. Have observers write down what they see and ask doctor at next visit. Regardless of cause, however, if people cough consistently during seizure or aren't swallowing normally, make sure those around you know what to do during seizure and not to give you anything by mouth until you are fully out of a seizure! Don't forget basic first aid when teaching other seizure first aid! Epi_help

Thanks, Wendy and Epi-help for your reply. Wendy, am glad to know that I'm not the only one that experiences this. I thought I was the only one. Epi_help, I heard from someone else that told me the same thing you said. Thanks again.... Seizuregirl "Life is what you make of it"
