New to (potential) TLE - progressing?

Mon, 08/14/2017 - 11:07
Hi Everyone, So...just looking for some general insight and I guess to chat to people who may know what Im going through. I have suspected Simple Partial Seizures (I am being sent for an MRI and EEG to be sure) My symptoms have initially been over looked as general anxiety disorder, I had to go private to to eventually get someone to listen to me without chalking all my symptoms up to anxiety. My symptoms mainly involve a 'gastric rise'(I believe its called this, when I get a rush from my stomach to my chest) and also a phantom smell (just the once so far) I get an overwhelming intense feeling of fear and feel like I need to immediately leave the room. I generally feel a little dizzy and lightheaded on a day to day basis although this is probably due to the anxiety meds I am currently on. Thats it.... I have been told all this is panic attack related since May however it wasnt until I experienced the phantom smell, this really scared me so I went to the specialist. Im hoping my appointments will come through soon but obviously I have this fear that they will generalise in to a full blown seizure before I get to have the tests and get some answers. The neurologist said that, while they can never say never, it is unlikely that it will progress to that as this has been going on since May and I have had purely these and nothing else. Has anyone had simple partial seizures ONLY or have they always, some time down the line progressed?

Hi there, I can relate to your anxiety as someone with simple partials, but your neurologist is right in that it's hard to predict how things will progress. Especially in the long term (decades rather than months). I've had only simple partials for about 15 years and they didn't progress (but of course for some people they do), but that doesn't take the worry away and unfortunately I have to say that things have progressed insofar as they are a lot more frequent and intense now and have really started to interfere with my life.I am guessing your neurologist wants to wait with prescribing drugs until all the test results are back? That's not too far in the future I hope and you can discuss things with him then. Also if you are having simple partial seizures the meds will help so you don't have to worry too much anymore. Good luck to you!
