New Parent

Hi, I have read quite a few threads and it helps to put things into perspective. Our 13 year old daughter had a seizure last week. My husband found her at the end of her seizure. In looking back she probably had another one when she was home alone 3 months ago. We thought it was a pacnic attack. After testing, (MRI, CAT scan and EEg) she was diagnosised with epilepsy. She is starting on 25mg of Lamicticil. It's hard. Lisa

Hi, I know how hard this must be for you. Believe me, I know how it feels to be grasping for answers, how hard it is not to know what lies ahead. How hard it is to wait till treatment is begun only to find that it may or may not help and you don't know if it is the medicine or something else. But take heart, your daughter's and your patience will pay off. You sound like a good mother. That is what she really needs right now more than anything. She is blessed to have you. In care you may be interested, my son is 17, but has dealt with some sort of strange illness since he was 7-8. He has been treated a lot for mental illnesses of various kinds, but recently, 2 different EEG's have shown that he has activity suggestive of epilepsy. It is possible that if they treat the seizures, that his mental illness issues may resolve. He has had a lot of smaller seizures, but the doctor says that they will possibly get much worse without treatment. He is refusing all medicines as he is so confused and disoriented. I know how hard it is to watch a child struggle. Mine has been in and out of mental hospitals for years now and it is heartbreaking. I am finally glad that they have diagnosed the epilepsy, however. Maybe now someone can really help him. I hope your child gets better quickly. I know that it is my faith in Christ that has seen our entire family through all of this. I will be glad to pray for your daughter. If you feel like sharing her first name, I will also add her to our church's prayer list :) Andrea

My son is 10 and was diagnosed less than 2 mo ago with benign rolandic epilepsy. He is taking keppra. Things seem to be going great. I would like to find some books for him to read about other kids with epilepsy. I think sometimes he feels alone, like he is different. Good luck!
