New with LOTS of Stress!

Tue, 08/29/2006 - 10:55
Hello all! I am new to this website. I have had seizures since I was 12 and I am now 25. My nuero. thought I had one type of E and after being 5 yrs seizure free tried weaning me off meds. I had been on Depakote ER 500mg BID since they started. By the time I was completely off the weaning process i had a seizure! (Ughh) They put me on Dilantin because they said it was a better med to be on if I planned on getting pregnant. I am taking 200mg BID and had another seizure 3 days ago. Very odd to me! My seizures have always been first thing in the morning after I wake up, this one was in the middle of the night! I had been sleeping 45 min and got up to use the bathroom. By the time I got back in bed in started. I don't know why....I wish I did! I am also in the process of planning my wedding, preparing for Breast Aug. surgery in 2 wks, and my job can be pretty stressful as well. All this on top of everyday worries! I just needed to vent, if anyone out there can relate please drop me a line! thanks!

Hi Kristen, I am 30 and I am very much the opposite of you. Had my first seizure this January, still in the process of getting them diagnosed. I have 3 kids, and I babysit 2 more, and have twice been out in public w/ them when I had an "episode"...how nerve-wracking. I feel there is a shortage of good parents in this world, and if you consider yourself a possibility, you should do whatever you can to make that dream come true. Good luck with everything, and be careful that the stress of planning a wedding doesn't overwhelm you. Consider me a friend... Sam

Wow! That is very scary. This "disorder" is not a very fun one to have. However, when you see some of the things other people go through that have other illnesses....I don't know, it kinda makes you feel blessed. Was there any sort of trigger that could have brought on these seizures for you? I hope that your Doctor figures out what is wrong and can control it. It must be very upseting to have your children there while it's happening. I can't imagine. I do feel like there is a shortage of "good" parents out there also. It just scares me so much because being a wife and a parent are my only two REAL goals in life. They are the two things that I think would make my life complete. So its scary at the thought of getting pregnant and being in labor all night and so much more, when my attacks are triggered by sleep and stress. I'm also trying to learn how to control stress, which is hard but I keep trying! Thank you so much for the reply, I'm glad I found this site! Kristin

First let me say Welcome to the boards :) With the stress you are under (wedding planning, surgery and work) any one of them alone can cause seizures let alone when you add all three of them to your stress levels at one time. Something that use to help me at night when I had seizures durning sleep after a stressful day/week was to take a hot bubble bath and listen to some soft music like Kenny G. It seem to ligthen my night time stress levels and made for a seizure free night. Good luck on your surgery and the wedding, Dovie "For daily need there is daily grace; for sudden need, sudden grace, and for overwhelming need, overwhelming grace." ô¿ô 0(*_*)0 0(Q _ Q)0 ( ^ . ^ )
