New here - ? re: aurus, deja vu and epilepsy

Well I have scheduled my first appointment with a neurologist in three weeks. For the past three or four years I have had these deja vu auru experiences where I feel totally out of body, I can't get my words out and I can't understand when other people are speaking. This is accompanied by a weird taste in my mouth, and I tend to smack my lips. Well two nights ago I woke up and my head was kind of jerking from left to right and I felt drool coming out of my mouth, but I couldn't control it. It was bizarre, and needless to say I was absolutely scared. Can someone give me some insight on what to expect during a first visit with a neurologist? Also I have been taking the anti-depressant zoloft since 2003. I have read that there can be seizure like side affects when taking this medication. Sorry for the long post, but I am new here and very scared of what is happening to me. :(

Oh my have you had an EEG yet? Sometimes it takes a few EEGs to be given in order to get a diagnosis. For me, 3rd time's a charm. I have had experiences similar to yours. I get an aura, can't understand what people are saying, have a hard time saying or getting my words/thoughts out. Sometimes I get scared, but mostly I just feel nauseous and hypersensitive to sound, touch, and sometimes light - as though a lamp would become brighter all of a sudden. It definitely makes me feel bizarre, especially at night. I have nocturnal seizures too and I twitch in my sleep. Sometimes it wakes me up, especially when I'm really tired. I was on Zoloft before I was diagnosed. That was not pretty. After my diagnosis my Dr was shocked to see that I had been on it in the past because Epilepsy and Anti-depressants DONT MIX! If you get diagnosed with epilepsy and need something for your mood, there are anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs)that can also double as a mood stabilizer. I take Lamictal and it works great for that. Keep asking your doctors questions. You have a lot of options.

This is accompanied by a weird taste in my mouth, and I tend to smack my lips.* I have partial complex epilepsy, and I have to say that I do have some of these things happen to me as well. Especially the drooling, and it does wake me at night. I dont have them in the same ways as you, or in the order that you would, but, the same symptoms.....I also was on Zoloft for a year or so before being diagnosed with epilepsy....and anti-dep, and anti-seizure medications dont mix as said above. I would say that make sure you write down EVERYTHING that you experience before you walk into the doctor because if you are like me you will space when you walk in there. And dont worry, things will work out....and you have found the support system! I unfortunately found it years later!! =)
