Hello all My name is Joe. I started having unusual events about 7 months ago. Each one has been triggered by different things. I am trying to find a Smoking Gun, but every time I feel on to something I discover that it isn't a consistent trigger. During the early ones I would feel so tired I could no longer stand. I would get on the floor and not long afterward start to experience a weird sensation. I was unable to form words or answer questions but I was conscious the whole time. Weirdest thing was that my right hand would move up beside my head and begin shaking, while the rest of my head shook also. If these are seizures, they have progressed in a relatively short time. I am now having daily seizures that sound like tonic clonic but so far I have not totally lost consciousness. The 4th to last one, I blanked out for a split second. Today's seizure just made unconsciousness feel like it would be a relief but again I didn't lose consciousness. The seizures seem to affect my upper body but not really my lower body. They are a little different each time, however, there has been no loss of consciousness. Very confused about these because they don't seem to fit neatly into any of the categories. I know that afterwards I feel impaired 4 at least two days and sometimes as much as four. My brain often feels like it's an electrical storm and my speech is slow and halting. Anyway, I guess my big question is do tonic clonic seizures ever occur without loss of consciousness? If so, might the loss of consciousness develop over time? I will be having a 72-hour video monitor EEG soon, which hopefully will let me and my doctor know whether there is any electrical storm in my brain during the seizure that I plan to induce. I am new to this, as a fifty-three-year-old adult, but I also feel this may have been coming on for years. As I speak these words, I feel a brain strain. Okay. That's pretty much it for now. Any advice this welcome. I am beginning to lose hope that these are pseudoseizures. I'm hoping the EEG will tell the story. Thank you.

I guess my big question is do tonic clonic seizures ever occur without loss of consciousness?   <<<< focal seizures that generalize can look like tonic clonic seizures and yes have a convulsive part in them. Tonic seizures are generalized so if you have a generalized seizure then you can have a tonic clonic seizure. Medications are designed and created to stop seizures. After approval and testing they are then tested to see any and all seizures they can treat.

Thank you.  I think there's

no problem. I was diagnosed years ago before types of seizures were changed and ypes of epilepsy were changed at the same time. I have focal seizures and yes I had convulsive ones when I was a teen. Today I have a seizure every 8-14 days which last a few seconds .My regular doc didn't know I had one while I was answering his question.
