New to epilepsy (complex parial), mood disorder and Lamictal

Sun, 11/23/2014 - 13:16
Hello everyone. Please forgive my grammar as I adjust to a new keyboard. I have had many medical issues since age 14, with this being my worst year...right before my 40th bday next month! I have not had my EEG, etc yet, however we are certain it is a lot of complex partials I have every few days. I fit the symptoms, already have a panic disorder to know, differences. My first known seizure almost killed me while driving. So scary, and no clue where this came, from. I am on Lamictal now building,up,to 200mg at least by Christmas. I will titrate off Lithium for mood disorder afterwards, and am curious what might be an average Lamictal dosage for both treatments? My M.D. seems to think 200-300 mg. I can't wait to be seizure free mostly again, to,drive, and not have my 12 yr old scared. Thank you so much!

WelcomeWell if it was me I

WelcomeWell if it was me I wouldn't check on ammounts the average person takes since the medication is no a one size fits all medicine. The ammount a person takes is different with each person. If yo uhave brothers and sisters you know each person likes a different piece of chicken or drinks a different soda. Your neurologist has patients that take it and the ammount he has them on. So that is where he will start. You may not need more but then you may have to go higher. It all depends on what your body does once it gets used to the medication. Also understand that any changes in your body be it weight change or hormonial can affect the medicatioon. For instance when I was a teen I had my dosages changed 4-5 times in about 9 months. A growing teen the changes was from a 4'6" 85lb kid to a 5'7' 135lb teen. A bid difference and bodies change while moving from kids to teens You have already made those changes so you know about them Just listen to your doctor and take note of what he says and please take your meds at the same time each day. If you are to take then 2 times a day then those times should be 12 hours apart. That way you will not have a break thru seizure because medication levels are too low I hope this helps Joe
