New diagnosis...

Thu, 09/18/2014 - 05:20

Hello. My name is mike and 24. I was diagnosed in the ER yesterday as having focal seizures. I have had headaches for a few years. They usually hit as a sharp pain to one side of the head and last for about 30 seconds. They are sometimes accompanied by a goosebump-like tingle on one side of my face or one side of the top of my head. This tingling can come without head pain. It is all very brief and fairly rare. That is why I never really thought much about it. I will also get a loud ringing in one or both ears, also brief and uncommon. Muscle twitching happens also more commonly (maybe 1-2 times per week) but is a small area and brief. A few months ago my thumb and middle finger on my right hand started to "contract" sporadicly. It only happened a couple times within those months and was very brief, so again I thought nothing of it. Yesterday I was sitting on the computer, and I got a weird feeling. Its like a disoriented, floaty feeling. Then my fingers started contracting again. They did it for about 10 min straight. I also had some head pain. It was mostly in my neck and lower head (like brain stem area maybe?) the doc at the clinic called an ambulance to take me to the ER because my ortheostatic* vitals were messed up (or thats what they told me) They did a bunch of blood tests, a ct scan and a chest x ray. It all came back clear. I was feeling a LITTLE better after 4 hours so they sent me home and I have an appt with a neurologist in a month. Ive been having some symptoms again, starting about an hour or two ago. I got that weird high feeling and immediately i got muscle twitching on my right forearm and right shoulder. The twitching only lasted like 30 seconds. My hands are trembling slightly. My jaw is trembling. I feel like my nervous system is barely hanging on, like its about to go haywire at any minute. My neck/brain stem area feels very stiff. Im getting my words mixed up and VERY SLIGHTLY slurring my speech. The ER doc said they cant really do anything for me unless I have multiple generalized seizures, therefore Im on my own for the next month. Im very new to all of this and have no idea if im ok, if this is normal, or anything. I dont have any anxiety or anything, Im just wanting some insight. Any advice would be much appreciated!

You may have had or be havibf focal seizures. They start in one area of the brain. twitching and contracting does happen in them as does wierd feeling in the same area of your hand. With me my focal seizures started like that but if they generalized my right hand would rise up I could not stop it and once shoulder level I went down in a convulsion. Those looked like a grand mal and if someone saw it they would say they were. As for thetests done in the ER fine in most of those things are abnormal.. A EEG is a test  most neurologists will do. They may want to look at the others and can generally get them either from you of the hospital.Oh and as for normal???? What is normal in a persons life. I have had a wide range of seizures. Grand mal, petite mal and focal motor seizures. Many were convulsive. I have been blessed to not have a sonvulsive seizure since 1970. My partial and focal seizures today are seconds in length. Now I can have a seizure while in a crowd and no one would know about it. I hope you get the assistance you need
