New and scared.

Hi my name is Tera. I just was diagnosed with epilepsy about a month ago. I seem to be having a hard time. My dr prescribed topamax. She said I had general convulsive epilepsy..if anyone could help me with this please do. I am a mother of two children. My oldest is 6 years old and it autistic. I also have a 1 year old..so far he is doing very well. I am very scared of this. This morning I started seeing all weird and felt like I was in a sleepy dream state and then came back to reality. And now I kind of have a headache. I was wondering if you can have a seizure and not know it. Most of mine are in my sleep. But I have been having weird sensations lately. My face and tongue sometimes go numb. Not sure if that is related or not. So here I am if someone can pass some wisdome and care I would love it!! Here are my questions 1)Can you have a seizure and not know it? 2)Are some seizures not the jerking type..and more like a dream state? 3)Can epilepsy progress? Tera

Tara- I am on Topomax along with dilantin and I have had some pretty strange side-effects from the meds too. I was just diagnosed in January and I have been having a really difficult time with the meds. I was doing really well until November when I started having four or five seizures a day until my neurologist told my mom to take me to the ER. That's when they put me on the dilantin. I had an EEG in November but they couldn't find out what kind of epilepsy I have. Here are some of my symptoms from the meds. Mabye this will help you. Dizziness Blurry vision Seeing objects that aren't there- mostly dots. sick to my stomach Ringing in my ears. I hope this helps you. Don't worry you are not alone.\ -Jordan

I would rather be hated for who I am. Rather than loved for something I am not. Jordan! I have seen dots and weird objects for years! I just thought my vision was going bad! And I hear ringing in my ears too! THank you so much! Tera

Your welcome Tera, I hope I helped you. Don't worry your vision probably isn't going bad, I think it may be the meds. I advise you to talk to your doctor and make sure but I can almost guarantee it. These meds are terrible and they have ways of tricking your mind into thinking your going crazy-don't buy into it. -Jordan.
