my 16 month old had a absence seizure?!! HELP

Fri, 03/13/2015 - 21:57

By the description I gave her pediatrician and the ER they said it was a seizure, an absence one.

My post as I am new to the site is a question upon her actions/description of the episode that led the doctors to say it was a seizure.

She had made a little sound (noise) not a cry.

Walked into the room where we were and was like nodding her head as she falling asleep while standing up.

Her upper lip was UP like nearly touching her nose.

She wasn't moving just standing up with her eyelids half closed.

(this is unlike her especially since she took her nap 2 hours prior and that being a normal nap)

We had picked her up and she looked as she wasn't breathing.

She wasn't moving, talking or making any noise. (UNLIKE HER)

As I got ahold of her she felt limp, like jello in other words.

She didn't look to be breathing which freaked me out, I tapped her face a little to see a reaction... It took two taps to wake her out of whatever it was.

She started to cry a little (from the tap) then began to close her eyes again and act limp, I continued to keep her awake as I had no idea what was wrong with her al she wanted to do was sleep and sleep. I was worried.

This all from start to finish was about a minute to a minute and a half. Her trying to go to sleep lasted 10 minutes after me tapping her and her being alert and her acting tired/fatigue lasted awhile ( an hour ).

From my description the pediatrician suspects the absence seizure, the ER did a CT of her brain, it was normal.

ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREAT! ANY ADVICE?

ANYONE WITH SIMILIAR EPISODES?

WAS THIS A SEIZURE?

anything would help ease me.

thanks!!
