On medication but TLE has returned... HELP!

Sat, 01/17/2015 - 08:28

Hi all, boy am I glad to have found this website.

I am a 42 yr old woman and had been seizure free for 9 years but in the last three weeks have experienced 3 temporal lobe episodes.  I am on lamatrogine and epilim chrono.  Has anyone else out there had an experience of TLE suddenly making a comeback even after being on medication and it apparantly all under control.

Bloods show Lamatrogine at the low end of theraputic levels and Epilim just under theraputic levels so that has been doubled.  Can your body get use to the medication and become resistant to it.

As i am a lady of a certain age (LOL) could the changing hormones etc cause a change?

I am still waiting on an appt for a neurologist but in the meantime have just had my third fit (epilim increased over a week ago) and am now very worried.

Sorry to ramble on and if i have put this in the wrong part of the forum could someone let me know!!!

PS very nice to meet you all  xxx

WelcomeRanble all you want. I do in a lot of my posts. There are many of us that have been seizure free only to have them show up again.I am one of them. My medications were all at levels that controlled my seizures well. I was studying to get a drivers license. What triggered my seizure was getting to ho to fast. Yup the work I was doing well  in and exceeding expectations. I had to stop working for 6 months. That happened back in the early 1970's. My seizures today are nothing like they were back then. Your theraputic levels are low on one and below levels on the other medication. So they do need to be looked at closer. Yes your body can get used to the medications you take and at times the dosages need to be increased or even changed at times. could the changing hormones etc cause a change?   Any change like weight gain or hormonial changes effect the way the medications work. when I was changing from a kid to a teen I gained 55 lbs and grew about 10 inches in about 9-11 months. Durin that period of time my doasges were changed 5-6 times. I hope this helps and you get your medication levels set and you get seizure free Joe

Joe, thank you soooo much for replying.  I have certainly put on weight in the last 7 years (about 5 stone) I never even thought about that being a possible cause!  I am getting some blood test results back later today that will hopefully put me back into the therapeutic levels and also waiting for the brain doctor to make me an appointment!  I have had to give up my driving license but to be honest it will make my husband get off his butt and do more so not too much of an issue there hehehe!
