To medicate after first seizure? Advice needed.

Thu, 05/05/2016 - 13:58
Hi there. I had my first seizure in February 10 weeks after giving birth to my baby boy by c section. The seizure was a grand mal and it happened when i was lying in bed with my husband feeding my baby. I was taken to hospital and blood tests which were taken that morning flagged up i was low in vitamin d and calcium. My MRI was clear. At the time although very scared and worried i put the seizure down to hormones due to the fact that i had not long given birth, tiredness as i hadnt been sleeping due to the baby feeding during the night, and stress (due to the fact i had a newborn) However last week i rrcieved a call from my nurologist who said that the results from my eeg (which i had done 6 weeks after the seizure) had shown some abnormality. Misfirings? She said it was mild but would like me to start on medication. Lamactil? The day before my seizure i had a number of hot flush sicky feelings - i have had these on and off most of my life and i put them down to hormones/time of the month etc. However the nurologist said these could be auras or partial seizures? I had one right before my gramd mal. I am really just looking for advice? Would you medicate after one grand mal? Could i have had epilespy all my life having partial seizures and pregnancy and other factors i.e. Lcknof sleep and stress has brought on the grand mal? In googling anti seizure meds a common side effect seems to be more seizures which i obvioulsy dont want as that would mean i would be unable to drive for longer (currently i must be a year seizure free before i can get my licence back) i dont want to start meds when i might never have another seiziure but i dont want to not start them and cause more? Feel a bit confused and worried. Any help/advice appreciated. Thanks
